UPDATE: Police respond to reported suicide on Wertland Street

UPDATE 11:30 a.m.

Second-year College student Peter D'Agostino died yesterday, University officials confirmed Friday. Charlottesville Police Capt. Gary Pleasants said the death will not be ruled a suicide until cause of death is confirmed by the medical examiner in the case.

Charlottesville Police responded to a reported suicide of a person at 1309 Wertland St. at 2:08 p.m. Thursday, Charlottesville Police Capt. Gary Pleasants and Sgt. Detective Jim Mooney confirmed. The person for whom the report was called in is now deceased.

Mooney said the reported suicide was called in by the deceased's roommate.

Charlottesville Police have been in touch with the Office of the Dean of Students in regards to the report.

The Office of the Dean of Students has no comment at this time.

Pleasants said a medical examiner is still conducting an examination and though the individual's family has been notified, the name will not be released until the exam is complete.
