Jesse Matthew Jr. will be charged with first-degree murder and abduction with intent to defile in Albemarle County in connection with the 2009 disappearance and death of Morgan Harrington.

The maximum penalty for each of these offenses is life in prison, according to a press release from the office of the Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney.

“The indictments result from the dedicated investigative efforts over the past six years by the Virginia State Police, Albemarle County Police, Charlottesville Police, University of Virginia Police, and the FBI,” the press release read.

Matthew was served with both indictments today and will first appear in court in connection with the case Sept. 16 at 12:45 p.m.

The Commonwealth said they will not comment on evidence or trial strategy prior to the trial itself.

Matthew is also currently facing charges of capital murder and abduction with intent to defile in connection with the disappearance and death of late University student Hannah Graham.
