If Alderman is your preferred study spot, you adore tradition and grandeur, because the vastness of life — and Alderman — doesn’t intimidate you.

A power outage affected Central Grounds Monday evening. The outage started around 5:40 p.m. and lasted for about 45 minutes.

Affected buildings included Newcomb Hall, Monroe Hall, Alderman Library and the Special Collections Library.

Roger Yeatts, assistant control operator for University Facilities Management, said a malfunction on two circuits at the Cavalier Electrical Substation resulted in the outage.

Rob Richardson, senior communications specialist at Dominion Power, said a fallen tree limb caused the malfunction.

“It was a tree limb that fell on Dominion’s power line and that caused a momentary outage and U.Va.’s equipment to [shut off],” Richardson said in an email statement.
