Police make arrest in Corner shooting

Charlottesville Police marked off areas with caution tape following the incident Saturday.

Charlottesville Police have arrested 23-year-old Lewis Alexander Tyree Jr. in connection with a shooting on the Corner Saturday morning which injured three people.

Tyree was charged with possession or transporting a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a release. He is from Dillwyn, Va.

Charlottesville and University police responded to a disturbance in the Corner Parking Lot around 2 a.m. Saturday morning and gunshots were fired as they arrived.

Three people were injured in the shooting. Police assisted one victim, who was then transported to the University Medical Center. Two other victims checked themselves into the hospital, but were not initially known to the police.

All received treatment for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Police have not released any further details and the investigation is ongoing; anyone with information is asked to contact the Charlottesville Police Department.
