Jessica Lukacs, a first-year Darden student, was appointed as the co-chair of Student Council's Appropriations Committee. She previously graduated from the University's Medical School.

Student Council approved a new co-chair of its Appropriations Committee and welcomed several new members during their weekly meeting Tuesday.

Representatives unanimously voted to appoint Jessica Lukacs, a first-year Darden student, to the position.

Lukacs received the endorsements of Ty Zirkle and Alex Cintron, third-year College students and the vice presidents for organizations and administration, respectively.

“There’s no one better suited to do the job,” Zirkle said.

Cintron cited Lukacs’ previous experience with Student Council as he spoke before the vote to approve the bill.

“Jess is a former chair of the graduate committee,” he said. “To speak to her experience, she has been one of the most diligent graduate students on Student Council.”

The Executive Board also welcomed newly elected members from the first-year and transfer representative elections, which concluded Sept. 21.

First-year College students Avery Gagne, Andrew Braff and William Braff were elected to represent the Class of 2021. Third-year Commerce student Taqua Elleithy was elected as the transfer Student Council representative.

David Birkenthal, a fourth-year College student and chair of the Representative Body, mentioned the recent elections after gaveling in the meeting.

“The elections for first-year and transfer representatives were last week,” he said. “We have lots of new members with us tonight.”

Sarah Kenny, a fourth-year College student and Student Council president, also addressed the new members during her executive report.

“There are so many new faces,” Kenny said. “We have a full house tonight, this is incredibly exciting.”

She also reassured the new representatives that there would be orientation programming during the coming month to make them feel at home on Student Council.

Student Council will not reconvene next week due to fall break. The next general body meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 10.
