The situation in Florida is dire. There is an ongoing assault on education and the banning of AP African American Studies is just one front in this war. What was a bold new step for American education is now a watered down version of real history. Learning from the great Black historian W.E.B. Du Bois, we can see clearly the danger of allowing these situations to develop and continue. If educational giants like College Board continue to bow down, the very problem that Du Bois highlighted in his work “Black Reconstruction in America” will become realized at the level of state education. Florida wants to avoid dealing with history in full, but only by reconciling with thinkers in their totalities can we begin to understand history.

In a largely digital era, through the power of influencers online, brands promote themselves on social media and advertise their products — often via perfect people with perfect bodies and perfect lives. As technology and advertising techniques develop in parallel, so does the strangeness in influencer promotion — now, advertisers are ushering in the era of the CGI influencer.

Around 75 students and community members gathered at the Rotunda steps Wednesday at noon for an educational teach-in event following a leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court which would overturn Roe v. Wade, a landmark case that legalized one’s right to abortion nationwide.
For gay Americans like myself who have largely grown up after the Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges that legalized same-sex marriage, it was hard to imagine that we would ever have to live through the struggles that countless gay Americans once did. Since 2015, increasingly large majorities of Americans — and majorities of both Democrats and Republicans — have supported issues like same-sex marriage and LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections. In 2020, over three-quarters of all Americans supported equal rights for gay people in housing, work and public life. Yet despite all of this, the Republican Party is actively working to undermine gay rights over asinine fears that children are being “groomed” to become gay.
