Even before the conclusion of Daniel Craig’s run as James Bond with 2021’s “No Time to Die,” there existed much chatter and conspiracy about which actor should follow in his footsteps. This conversation was revitalized in the past few months, catalyzed by the recent rumor that Aaron Taylor-Johnson — a British actor known for “Bullet Train” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” — has been offered the role.

Last year was a bountiful one, with cinematic fruits reaped from a wide variety of well-accomplished and well-respected filmmakers, and the upcoming show is set to spotlight many of these sensations, particularly with its Best Picture nominees.

The latest addition to a series of remakes and repurposes has arrived with “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” The Amazon Prime Video series is loosely based on the 2005 film of the same title starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but what it lacks in pop culture notoriety it makes up for in a strong premise and stronger cast.

2023 has been a year full of “great man” movies. From Ben Affleck’s “Air” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” to Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” and Michael Mann’s “Ferrari,” cinemas have time and time again seen great men do great things, as they strive and struggle and ultimately, for the most part, succeed. “Maestro,” Bradley Cooper’s second directorial feature and follow-up to 2018’s “A Star Is Born,” is the newest addition to this collection.

The hills of Charlottesville are alive with the sound of live music. On any given Saturday, the soundtrack of Rugby Road almost certainly includes a myriad of voices singing along to covers of classic rock anthems performed by one of the many fraternity bands on Grounds, from The Big Slice to The Jellies.

Todd Haynes’ "May December” was one of the final screenings at this year’s Virginia Film Festival, and Sunday afternoon found the Paramount Theater packed with viewers eagerly anticipating his newest feature. The film, starring Academy Award winners Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman, debuted at Festival de Cannes last May to critical acclaim, and has been making its rounds on the festival circuit in advance of its arrival in US theaters Nov. 17 and on Netflix Dec. 1.
