Friday’s rematch against No. 1 seed Notre Dame gave No. 4 seed Virginia a chance to bounce back and improve upon its performance from last weekend — one riddled by small mistakes from the Cavaliers (10-5, 1-3 ACC) as the Fighting Irish (11-1, 4-0 ACC) rallied late in the game to win 11-9. Instead, Notre Dame put on a show, scoring six goals in the first quarter and holding the lead the entire game on its way to an 18-9 win in the ACC Tournament semifinals in Charlotte, N.C.’s American Legion Memorial Stadium.

Saturday’s game between No. 4 Virginia and No. 7 Syracuse at JMA Wireless Dome saw the teams battling back and forth in a game of runs. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers (10-3, 1-2 ACC), the Orange (11-4, 3-1 ACC) had the final one. Despite gaining possession twice in the final 45 seconds, Virginia was unable to score.

This Sunday saw No. 3 Duke host No. 2 Virginia in Durham, aiming to capture its 19th consecutive regular season win against the Cavaliers (10-2, 1-1 ACC). Despite winning faceoffs at a 59 percent rate and winning the ground ball battle 47-34, the Cavaliers struggled to generate consistent offense and ultimately suffered an 18-12 loss to the Blue Devils (11-3, 1-2 ACC).

With the band providing the soundtrack to a beautiful Saturday matchup, No. 4 Virginia (8-1, 0-0 ACC) faced Drexel (3-5, 0-1 CAA) at Klöckner Stadium for the Cavaliers’ One Love game, a day organized in support of the One Love Foundation, which promotes healthy relationships. Fans from the previous women’s lacrosse game lingered as more fans began to fill the stadium for the men's game. They all enjoyed a dominant 14-4 Cavalier victory.

Virginia marched into College Park Saturday and defeated Maryland 14-10, ending the Terrapins’ (5-2, 0-0 Big Ten) three-game winning streak against the Cavaliers (6-1, 0-0 ACC) in the decades-old rivalry and avenging last season’s crushing overtime loss. Coach Lars Tiffany’s comments postgame captured the energy and hustle that both teams brought with them Saturday.

Klöckner Stadium witnessed the extension of Virginia’s win streak against Robert Morris Tuesday, as the No. 6 Cavaliers (4-1, 0-0 ACC) improved their record in the fledgling series against the Colonials (1-4, 0-0 ASUN) to 5-0. An explosive opening quarter put the Cavaliers ahead 6-1, and they did not look back the rest of the game.

Virginia men’s lacrosse faced Ohio State Sunday afternoon in a game that ended up being a tale of two halves. The No. 3 Cavaliers (3-0, 0-0 ACC) used a blistering start to take a 10-3 lead into halftime, but the No. 20 Buckeyes (4-1, 0-0 Big Ten) recovered for a more competitive second half. The Cavaliers, though, maintained a buffer that never shrank to less than five goals and emerged with a 14-8 win.

Virginia men’s lacrosse made the in-state trip to Robins Stadium to take on Richmond in its second game of the season Saturday. The No. 3 Cavaliers fought for the win against a quality team in the No. 16 Spiders (1-2, 0-0 Atlantic 10), pulling away in the fourth quarter to win 14-10. The day was highlighted by graduate student attacker Payton Cormier breaking Virginia’s career goals record, previously held by Doug Knight, who tallied 165 goals in 60 games. Cormier now sits on top with 167 goals in just 57 games.
