Virginia rowing continued its fall season Sunday afternoon at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J. to the tune of great success. Competing in multiple events, the Cavaliers entered five boats in the first round of Open Eight races. There were two in the second round, and three in the Women's Coxed Fours competition — all racing down the three-mile course on Lake Carnegie. Virginia achieved strong results, with two boats finishing inside the top 10.

In its last regular season game, No. 3 Virginia field hockey conquered Wake Forest in Winston Salem, N.C. After a heartbreaking shutout loss to North Carolina last week, the Cavaliers (13-3, 6-2 ACC) came into this game determined to play their best and end their regular season with a bang against the Demon Deacons (7-10, 2-6 ACC). They were able to do just that, coming out on top in overtime 2-1.

In a clash of national championship contenders, Virginia field hockey journeyed down to Chapel Hill, N.C. Friday for a showdown against North Carolina. Most of the competition played out in the second half of the game, during which the No. 4 Cavaliers (12-3, 5-2 ACC) could not find their footing as the No. 2 Tar Heels (13-0, 6-0 ACC) continued their undefeated season with a 4-0 stomping of the visitors.

No. 4 Virginia will take on No. 2 North Carolina Friday in one of the most anticipated matchups of the year in Chapel Hill, N.C. As the end of the regular season approaches, both teams are gearing up for a high-stakes match that could have major implications for conference standings and seedings for the ACC Tournament. With a win, the Cavaliers would pass the Tar Heels in the conference standings and claim the top spot in the ACC. The stakes are obviously high and pulling off the win will not be easy, but a victory could be the crown jewel of Coach Ole Keusgen’s inaugural season as the leader of this program.

After a brutal home loss to Saint Joseph's last weekend, No. 4 Virginia field hockey walked back onto Turf Field to host No. 12 Syracuse. In an aggressive game characterized by turnovers and referee reviews, the Cavaliers (11-2, 5-1 ACC) beat out the Orange (10-4, 4-3 ACC) in a sudden death shootout after two periods of overtime.

Having sprinted to an undefeated 9-0 start on the season, No. 3 field hockey traveled to Newton, Mass. to take on No. 11 Boston College Friday. Both teams entered the game undefeated in conference play — the Eagles (8-2, 3-0 ACC) were coming off of a five-game winning streak as they stepped up to their home field to host the Cavaliers (9-1, 3-1 ACC), who were riding their best start to a season since 2010. In a gritty defensive battle, Boston College escaped with the 3-2 overtime victory.

No. 3 Virginia field hockey traveled down to Durham, N.C. Friday to face No. 9 Duke for their first in-conference road game of the season. The undefeated Cavaliers (8-0, 3-0 ACC) won a defensive showdown to closely eke past the Blue Devils (4-4, 0-1 ACC) in a 1-0 victory.

Following a strong start to the season, No. 3 Virginia field hockey faced off against No. 5 Maryland in College Park. Md. Friday evening. The stakes were high as the rival teams met for the first time since the 2023 NCAA Quarterfinals — when the Cavaliers (4-0, 0-0 ACC) crushed the Terrapins (3-2, 0-0 Big 10) 4-0 on Maryland's home field. Virginia was able to come out on top once again in a close game, ending 1-0.

Virginia field hockey played their first home game of the season against Temple Friday. The Cavaliers (2-0, 0-0 ACC) were able to hold off the Owls (2-1, 0-0 Big East) en route to a dominant 7-0 win at University Hall Turf Field.

While starting a season off playing an away game might seem nerve-wracking to some, Virginia field hockey brought fire to their game in University Park, Pa. Friday versus Penn State. The Cavaliers (1-0, 0-0 ACC) clearly came ready to fight and did just that as they came out on top over the Nittany Lions (0-1, 0-0 Big 10) in a 2-1 victory.

Coming off of their road to semifinals in 2023, Virginia field hockey aims to continue dominating offensively in 2024. With a 14-7 record last year, the Cavaliers were able to hold off powerful teams like Penn State while even coming out on top against national champion North Carolina on their senior day. The team hopes to bring that same fire to their 2024 season, hopefully advancing even further into the NCAA championship.

Despite a series victory over Clemson earlier this season, Virginia softball fell short against the No. 5 Tigers (34-16, 15-9 ACC) in the ACC Quarterfinal Thursday in Durham, N.C. The No. 4 Cavaliers (32-18, 15-9 ACC) went behind early and never recovered, falling 8-1 in a disappointing loss.

After an impressive series win against Duke last weekend that secured Virginia’s spot in the ACC Championship — followed by a crushing loss Tuesday versus Virginia Tech — the Cavaliers (32-17, 15-9 ACC) faced off against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. for their final conference series of the year. While the Yellow Jackets (31-22, 12-12 ACC) bested Virginia in the first game, the Cavaliers came back strong to win the two following matches and the series.

The eighth edition of the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash — a year-long competition between Virginia and Virginia Tech that includes 24 matchups across 22 sports — was decided last weekend at the women’s golf ACC Championship as the Cavaliers shot 17 under the Hokies’ weekend finish of 873. Each school is awarded a point when they come out on top over their rival — some sports will face off twice during the season, meaning those games are worth 0.5 points each. The first team to accumulate 11 points is crowned the winner. This final triumph over Virginia Tech marked the last point needed to end the contest and lock in Virginia’s win.

The Cavaliers (28-14, 11-8 ACC) got shut out by the Hokies (32-9-1, 15-4 ACC) — who entered on a five-game winning streak — in a 6-0 loss.

After Virginia entered Softball America’s top-25 rankings for the first time since 1995 last week, the team proved to fans why they should be there by winning their weekend series at Palmer Park versus NC State. While the No. 24 Cavaliers (28-13, 11-7 ACC) have only won 23 of 53 contests against the Wolfpack (23-20, 3-14 ACC) in total, they’ve now come out on top of eight of the last ten matchups since 2019.

Following wins against both Liberty and James Madison Tuesday and Wednesday, Virginia softball traveled to Villanova for a two-game series Friday and Saturday. The Cavaliers (24-10, 7-5 ACC) hadn’t played the Wildcats (18-14, 9-0 Big East) since 2004 before the series-opening game Friday, but they delivered with a pair of wins. Virginia shut down Villanova’s offensive attack in both games, only allowing the hosts to score three total runs.

After a tough week for Virginia softball — the Cavaliers (17-9, 5-4 ACC) lost their series against North Carolina last weekend and faltered against Maryland on Tuesday — fans gathered at Palmer Park this weekend in hopes that the team wasn't losing its momentum as they faced Syracuse. They were not disappointed, as Virginia was able to come back from a tough loss on Friday and win the last two games of its home series against the Orange (13-11, 1-5 ACC).
