Since arriving on Grounds for the spring semester, I have explored every inch of the renovated Alderman Library — its beautiful interior design, winding hallways and hundreds of sitting areas. I have compiled a list of my favorite spots. If you need recommendations on a new signature study nook, keep reading.
Grounds is really expansive, and simply going from class to class can require a decent amount of traveling. As a first year who lives in the Gooch-Dillard dorms, I promise you I have had to cover a long distance just to get to class or a dining hall. Most times, I choose walking as the way to get to places. While it may not be reasonable in every situation, I believe, if it is possible, walking is such an underrated option to get around Grounds. Walking may have its cons, but I am going to tell you why it can be such a wonderful aspect of being a student here. Hopefully, the next time you have to walk somewhere you can look at the experience in a more positive light because it can truly start off your day on the right foot — yes, even in the frigid cold.
The second my alarm blares in the morning, I angrily stumble out of bed to turn my phone off only to realize I have to be in class in under an hour. My baggy t-shirt and sweatpants feel way too comfortable to change out of. Still, I personally aspire to look nice for class simply for my own self-confidence and to feel more ready to face my peers. I have found that these 10 things are ways to feel put together while also staying comfortable.
Packing for college is not for the weak, especially as a first year who has to prepare for all the “what ifs” of living by myself for the first time. By the time I had narrowed down all my possessions to the items coming with me to college, I thought for sure I could not possibly have missed anything. This could not have been farther from the truth, though, as my long receipt of Amazon orders within the first few weeks can attest to. In my opinion, these items deserve a place in your travel basket next time you’re on your way back to Grounds from home.
