This may be old news to some Halo Top enthusiasts and dairy-free ice cream fans, but a few weeks ago the popular low-calorie, low-sugar, high-protein ice cream brand released dairy-free versions of a few of their most-liked flavors. The list of dairy-free options includes flavors such as Birthday Cake, Candy Bar, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Oatmeal Cookie and Pancakes & Waffles, among others. Though these dairy-free pints were released earlier this year, they have now made their way into a few grocery stores in Charlottesville. I decided to try out a few flavors to see how they compare to their original counterparts and to confirm whether or not they are worth the hype and anticipation surrounding their release.

As we have all heard numerous times while growing up, breakfast is the most important meal of day. This semester, I have a class from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and I have to physically drag myself there every time. That part of the day is prime nap-time, and I rarely have the energy to make it through without zoning out several times. On my way there, I have continually noticed a small but eye-catching food truck near the Amphitheater. It seems to stay there even after all the others have left for the day.

It’s finally starting to feel like fall — at least in the mornings. The sky is bright. The air is clear and crisp. Leaves are starting to change colors. And, of course, everything is pumpkin flavored once again.

Many of us already know and love the University and Charlottesville, and have been eagerly counting down the days until we return to our friends, classes and community. For some of you, this might be your first time coming to the University and Charlottesville, and I’m sure you’ve been excitedly awaiting the new experiences you will have here. But whether unloading boxes of belongings into a first-year dorm or walking up the steps of an off-Grounds apartment as an upperclassman, we are all about to enter a hurting city. Charlottesville has seen its share of tragedies over the years, but this summer, through several earlier protests culminating in the violence and tragedy of the riots surrounding the “Unite the Right” rally yesterday, old wounds have deepened while new ones were created.
