In a small, unassuming building hidden behind a gas pump, Hunt Country Market & Deli serves my favorite sandwiches in Charlottesville. The take-out shop offers a variety of signature subs, all aptly named after racehorses in true horse-country fashion. Each sandwich is only $6.99 and is handmade as soon as you order. Hunt Country is the perfect spot to grab some lunch for a picnic, or my personal favorite — the best way to fight Foxfield famish.

Burger Bach — pronounced batch — is the place to go for New Zealand inspired burgers and a good time. The relaxed atmosphere and moderate prices offer the perfect spot for a dinner before running across the street to catch a movie at the Regal theater. Their moderate price range — between $14 and $19 for a burger — and delicious food made it a great dinner for my friend and I after a long week of exams.

Continental Divide has been a fixture of the Charlottesville dining scene since 1994 with their southwestern cuisine and quirky charm. The restaurant offers a loud, bustling atmosphere and food that makes you never want to leave. With big portions, reasonable prices and its accessible location — less than a mile away from central Grounds — the casual eatery is the perfect place for dinner with friends.

As someone who grew up eating Italian food homemade by my Nonna, I’m pretty hard to impress when it comes to my native cuisine. Even so, the food at Mona Lisa Pasta earns my praise. I grabbed dinner from the locally-owned Italian deli to bring home to my five roommates for under $35. The cozy take-out shop is perfect for any Italian craving, with affordable prices and flavorful dishes.

After a long day of midterms, I needed some comfort food, and luckily Brazos was able to hit the spot. Their Austin style tacos have taken Charlottesville by storm, developing a cult following that I needed to experience for myself. The relaxed atmosphere makes it the perfect place to grab a bite to eat, and it is not far from Grounds in the Barracks Road Shopping Center, making Brazos my new go-to for Tex-Mex on a budget.
