Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Terry McAuliffe raised $24,776,522 from donations this election cycle, outpacing Cucinelli’s $14,815, 328. Political industries and politics sectors were significant donors for both candidates, accounting for about $8.5 million of McAuliffe’s funds and $9.2 million of Cucinelli’s.

The University Committee on Sustainability hosted a celebration of Campus Sustainability Day
Wednesday afternoon as part of its effort to recognize and encourage sustainable environmental practices at the University. Complete with ecologically sustainable refreshments, the event featured presentations by University Architect David Neuma and Cheryl Gomez, director of energy and utilities for facilities management.

Prosecuting sexual assault or sexual misconduct through student self-governance at the University has come with its fair share of challenges and quirks. The Honor Committee does not prosecute sexual misconduct, nor does the University Judiciary Committee hold sexual misbehavior in its scope of jurisdiction — in part — for legal reasons.

After a seven-year legal battle, an appellate court ruled Wednesday in favor of The Cavalier Daily and Virginia Tech’s Collegiate Times, allowing the two publications to publish advertisements for alcoholic beverages in college newspapers.

The University squash community united Thursday at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new McArthur Squash Center at Boar’s Head Sports Club, marking its official opening, though the center became available for use in April. The $12.4 million, 33,000-square-foot facility’s opening coincides with the Grand Opening Festival of Squash, which includes a series of tournaments and events at the center that last until Sunday.
