Academy Award nominee and comedy superstar Jonah Hill’s directorial debut, “Mid90s,” is a testament to the awkward phase of life that is early adolescence. The movie is centered around Stevie (Sunny Suljic), a 13-year-old boy growing up in Los Angeles with his single mother Dabney (Katherine Waterston) and his older brother Ian (Lucas Hedges), who always seems to carry an air of hostility with him. From the very beginning of the film, it is clear Stevie admires and looks up to his older brother. Stevie constantly sneaks up to Ian’s room, listens to his hip-hop CDs and admires his belongings in an attempt to get closer to his brother. When Ian does not reciprocate the love Stevie shows him, Stevie rides around LA to try and find his own group of friends to fit in with. Eventually, Stevie finds the Motor Avenue Skateshop and befriends the group of boys inside.

The opening images of “Journey Into Night” — the season two premiere of “Westworld” — showcase the aftermath the events at the end of the first season. The amusement park where the wealthiest of the wealthy could live out their violent fantasies has become a warzone where the attractions — the artificially intelligent robotic stewards of the park called “hosts” — have become the leaders.

The Voidz are led by a man named Julian Casablancas. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because prior to starting The Voidz, Casablancas was a member of a little band called The Strokes. The Strokes started the New York underground indie/garage rock scene and in the early aughts many hailed them as the saviors of rock music. Eventually though, The Strokes faded — they stopped writing compelling and exciting songs and lost their edge. The group never officially split up, but they’ve only put out two albums and an EP in the last 12 years.

Ty Segall has never been one to be pigeonholed into a certain sound. While he has been hailed as a figurehead of the garage rock revival, he has stated that his artistic influences spread much wider — reaching from hardcore punk legends Black Flag to glam rockers like T. Rex and David Bowie. He has also never been afraid to act on those whims of influence either. Segall has achieved a reputation as one of the most prolific artists working today. To date, he has released nine solo studio albums, two collaborative albums and many other projects with the numerous other bands with which he is involved. Segall’s newest album — “Freedom’s Goblin” — is his attempt to mesh all of his creative influences into a single project. The album doesn’t play out as a single, cohesive experience, but rather a collection of well-crafted singles. The 19-track, 74-minute double album sees Segall firing on cylinders creatively.

Björk has always been fascinated with the idea of love. From her genre-defying pop records of the ‘90s and early 2000s to her more experimental recent work, Björk’s music has focused on relationships and the feelings involved with them. “Utopia” — her most recent album — stands as a testament to the concept of love as a whole. On it, she declares not just her love for romantic partners who have come and gone, but also her love for the world and the human race.

For the first act of “Downsizing,” the film is utterly captivating. The movie follows the journey of Paul Safronic (Matt Damon) and his wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig) as they decide to undergo the process of “downsizing” and get shrunk down to a size of five inches. This process not only shrinks your body, but also your cost of living. For a couple thousand dollars in the “big” world, one can purchase a mansion in a special downsized community and live lavishly without needing to work. Paul and Audrey’s mere $150,000 net worth turns them into multimillionaires in a downsized community.

Weezer’s career has taken a fascinating trajectory. The band’s first two records are cemented as classics in the alternative rock canon. Those albums — 1994’s “Weezer” and 1996’s “Pinkerton” — were partially responsible for moving rock out of the moody grunge arena to the suburbs where nerdy kids were playing music in their garages.

Annie Clark — best known as St. Vincent — has never been one for publicity. In the beginning of her career, she was famous for her impersonal lyricism and giving out very little information about her private life. She was catapulted to the front of the indie rock scene after garnering immense critical acclaim for her first four albums — including a Grammy Award in 2014 for Best Alternative Music Album for her self-titled release — all while maintaining a low public profile.
