As the regular season reaches twilight, Virginia battled Boston College this weekend for a conference series in Boston. Fresh off a massive midweek win against Liberty, the No. 14 Cavaliers (33-12, 14-10 ACC) dropped the first game against the Eagles (21-21, 8-16 ACC) before winning two straight to take the series. While the pitching staff struggled in the opening game, Virginia pitchers were able to shut down the opposing offense for the final two games.

Virginia took on Duke this weekend for a conference series in Durham, N.C. After coming in with a six-game win streak, the No. 9 Cavaliers (22-6, 7-5 ACC) were unable to deliver against the No. 11 Blue Devils (20-8, 6-6 ACC), losing two of the three games.

No. 13 Virginia baseball traveled to Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend to compete in the inaugural Jacksonville College Baseball Classic. After a 3-0 sweep against Hofstra last weekend and a midweek victory against Old Dominion, the Cavaliers (7-0, 0-0 ACC) managed to pull out two comeback wins against Wichita State and Iowa before sealing the weekend sweep against No. 23 Auburn in The Sunshine State.

Virginia volleyball hosted Duke Friday for its penultimate home game of the 2023 season. The Cavaliers (10-16, 3-13 ACC) were unable to generate any momentum in a tight first two sets, eventually getting swept by the Blue Devils (18-9, 9-7 ACC).

After a historic victory against rival Virginia Tech, Virginia volleyball traveled down to Florida over the weekend to face off against ACC opponents Miami and Florida State. The Cavaliers (9-15, 2-12 ACC) lost the first match against the Hurricanes (16-8, 9-5 ACC) in four sets Friday and subsequently lost again to the Seminoles (18-8, 12-2 ACC) in four sets Sunday, struggling against two of the top teams in the conference.

Virginia volleyball traveled to Fitzgerald Field House Wednesday to face off against No. 7 ranked Pittsburgh. After two sets to forget for the Cavaliers (8-11, 1-8 ACC), Virginia came back in the third set and put up a fight against the Panthers (17-3, 8-1 ACC) before ultimately losing the match 3-0.

Virginia volleyball traveled to Notre Dame and Louisville over the weekend in search of a break of a three-game losing streak. The Cavaliers (8-10, 1-7 ACC) could not find the way back to their early season winning ways, however, losing in four sets to the Fighting Irish (10-6, 4-4 ACC) Friday and in three sets to the No. 6 Cardinals (16-2, 7-1 ACC) Sunday.

Virginia men’s lacrosse picked up a massive commitment from attackman Brendan Millon Tuesday evening. This means that for the fifth time in the previous seven recruiting cycles, the Cavaliers have landed the No. 1 recruit in the class.

Virginia volleyball hosted Syracuse and Boston College over the weekend at Memorial Gymnasium. The Cavaliers (8-6, 1-3 ACC) defeated the Orange (2-12, 0-4 ACC) Friday in a four-set matchup to earn their first victory over Syracuse since 2003. However, Virginia was unable to secure a victory against the Eagles (12-6, 1-3 ACC) Sunday, losing in four sets.

Virginia volleyball hosted the Jefferson Cup Invitational Friday and Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium. The Cavaliers (7-3, 0-0 ACC) defeated Norfolk State in a three-set sweep but could not hold on to beat Wofford.

Virginia volleyball hosted Old Dominion Tuesday for their third home match of the season. After losing the first set, the Cavaliers (4-1, 0-0 ACC) battled hard against the Monarchs (4-3, 0-0 Sun Belt) and fought for a 3-2 win after taking the fifth set in extra points.

Virginia volleyball traveled to New York this weekend to play in the Big Apple Tournament hosted by Columbia. The Cavaliers (3-1, 0-0 ACC) defeated Quinnipiac in a 3-1 match and took on the Lions (0-3, 0-0 Ivy) in a five set showdown resulting in a 3-2 victory to go undefeated on the weekend.

Virginia volleyball hosted the Cavalier Classic — their first non-conference event of the season — Friday and Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium. The Cavaliers (1-1, 0-0 ACC) defeated Rider in straight sets but lost to Rutgers 3-2, splitting their matches to finish their home tournament in second.

After an improved 2022-2023 season, the Virginia volleyball team is pushing closer towards a winning record while continuing to build a unified program under Coach Shannon Wells. Last year’s 12-17 (4-14 ACC) record in Wells’ second campaign with the Cavaliers points towards progress in comparison to the 8-20 (1-17 ACC) record from her first season as head coach. Now, a slew of returners could help catapult the Cavaliers into the middle of the Atlantic Coastal Conference standings.
