You are a famous actor delivering crucial lines in the middle of a performance when suddenly the consummate thespian nightmare ensues. You freeze up, unable to speak or move, trapped in a nebulous paralytic state of helpless failure, and realize something crushing: the actor within you has died.

EVEN THOUGH it was less than two weeks ago, the onslaught of final papers, exams and the like have made the Thanksgiving holiday feel like an ancient memory for most of us. I, however, can still remember it clearly because on this Thanksgiving I was in New York, in Manhattan, and on the street during the famous Macy's Parade. What this means is that I was one of the freezing people you were watching on TV while you laughed on your nice warm couch with your hot chocolate and a better view of the actual parade than I ever got.

ONCE YOU arrive here at the University as a first-year student you're thrust into a world involving many unknown people. You ask each other a variety of introductory questions, and gradually learn to amend the "Where are you from?" question to "What part of Northern Virginia are you from?" DIVERSITY! I think I just saw a collective cringe. Diversity is one of those words that just pops up all the time in contemporary higher education circles. We have endless forums, surveys, discussions, etc., all about this idea of pluralism we like to call diversity. THERE is one home football game left. Many of you are now thinking about one important question, namely, "who cares?" A wise response, dear reader, a wise response. There are, however, those students who take college football seriously and some who will lament not having the opportunity to drink and sway with thousands of fellow students on Saturday afternoons while shouting homophobic slogans. This is only natural. At any university there will be many who care deeply about the athletic teams and others who are not sure if a field goal happens in soccer or football. Although this balance is inevitable, some people seem to think that the football team deserves an excessive amount of support from the University, and their view can be seen in places such as these hallowed pages. This viewpoint is entirely wrong, though, and it is a waste of editorial space.

THE FRUSTRATED student finally was able to sum up his argument quite succinctly, if not eloquently: "I just hate Gore. He is a big liar." Another student had this to say about the upcoming election, "I do not see how anyone could possibly vote for Bush. You would have to be close-minded and certifiably insane."

IT IS probably a fair assumption that you would like to attend school here at the University for free, given the option. What if I said that you could and that no, you don't need a perfect SAT score, fluency in four languages, presidency of 18 clubs/organizations, and a 4.8 GPA to get it? What if all you had to do to receive a free ride was keep a "B" or even "C" average in high school?
