Students for Peace and Justice in Palestine displayed an apartheid wall Monday outside of Newcomb to recognize Israeli Apartheid Week — an international event at the end of February and the beginning of March to raise awareness of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The wall symbolizes the West Bank barrier in Israel and displays statistics about Israeli occupation.

This year’s Student Council presidential campaign will see the first competitive race in two years between second-year College student Abraham Axler, third-year College student Locher Grove and third-year Commerce student Kyle West. The previous two Council presidents — College graduate Eric McDaniel and outgoing fourth-year Engineering student Jalen Ross — ran unopposed.

Many sorority national headquarters are putting strict measures in place to prevent member participation in this year’s Boys’ Bid Night activities. Several chapters have been required to schedule mandatory meetings or social events in lieu of Bid Night activities, in addition to a request from the National Panhellenic Conference last week requesting all sororities cancel organized Bid Night activities.

The Graduate Student Consulting and Beyond Club held a panel Thursday night to discuss science and technology policy and various careers in the field. The panel, held at Garrett Hall, aimed to discuss the disconnect between the sciences and policy, how society and the government utilize technology, and the process of shaping science and technology policy decisions.

Charlottesville is a finalist for the Georgetown University Energy Prize, a contest aimed toward increasing energy efficiency in small- to medium-sized communities. Two other Virginia cities, Blacksburg and Roanoke, are also in competition for the prize.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe awarded $1.6 million in grants Wednesday to 29 schools in 13 divisions to support existing year-round education programs and help schools implement new programs in the 2014-15 or the 2015-16 school years.
