In a significant discovery for the medical community, Asst. Medical Prof. Charles Farber has shown genetic variation in the gene Bicc1, which regulates bone mass. The discovery opens doors for future work in preventative diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis — a bone disease which is estimated to affect 9.9 million Americans.

The computer, a symbol of modern isolation through technology, may now offer a path to treatment of this disorder.

The University hosted 16 student teams hailing from New York to Virginia late last month for the regional Chem-E-Car competition. Students competed to build a vehicle capable of carrying a weight across a distance of 15-30 meters. This year marked the University’s first turn as the host for the regional conference.

Haley, who lives with her mother Lisa Smith in Virginia, was five months old when she had her first seizure. Lisa Smith said she believes medical marijuana can bring her daughter some relief.
