Student Council passed a bill to approve newly contracted CIOs, a bill to amend the Student Activities Fee guidelines and a bill to approve an appointment made by the Vice President for Administration last night during the Student Council General Body meeting. After postponing the vote during last week’s General Body meeting due to lack of Representative attendance, each bill passed with 19 yeas and one abstention.

Student Council passed SR20-06, “A Resolution in Support of Mental Wellness and Resiliency Courses In Engagements,” Tuesday evening by a vote of 21 yays and 1 abstention. This bill is a modified version of SR20-03 that addresses the concerns that were raised in last week’s Student Council general body meeting concerning the replacement of the New College Curriculum’s Empirical Engagement requirement with a mental wellness requirement.

At its general body meeting Tuesday night, Student Council voted to table a resolution in support of mental wellness and resiliency Engagement courses, as well as a bill to amend the bylaws in regards to electing the chair of the representative body. The proposed resolution and bylaw will be voted on during the next general body meeting, Feb. 11.

Ellie Brasacchio, fourth-year College student and Student Council president, proposed a bill at the latest Student Council meeting Tuesday night that would integrate the University’s Community Food Pantry with Student Council. Other initiatives, such as providing free menstrual hygiene products on Grounds and an event to redistribute iClickers, were also discussed at the meeting.

University Provost Liz Magill joined Student Council representatives and around 40 students for a public discussion on the University’s “watch list” admissions practice as part of a question-and-answer forum held by Student Council Tuesday evening. However, many students expressed concern that their questions went unanswered and were unsatisfied with the outcome of the meeting.

Student Council unanimously passed a resolution calling on the University to provide free STI testing and a bill to approve newly created Contracted Independent Organizations at its weekly meeting Tuesday evening. A bill to create an ad-hoc committee to support student workers also passed with 24 yays and one abstention.

The University’s Student Information System experienced an outage Monday evening during peak course enrollment time for fourth-year students, roughly between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. A piece of inefficient code found within the new SIS interface has been identified as the likely problem.

Student Council approved a budget that would allocate $69,548.39 to its various committees for the 2019-20 school year. Student Council also passed emergency legislation voicing support for the modernization of the College curriculum.
