For the first time, the No. 12 Virginia men’s swimming team entered a postseason-caliber bracket challenge of the regular season this weekend in Knoxville, Tenn. In an opportunity to measure itself against three of the nation’s premier men’s programs, the Cavaliers fell short and finished fourth after dropping all three of their matches, including a 37-19 loss to Michigan in Sunday morning’s meet for third place.

Colonial Hall never really sat down Sunday afternoon. A loud and restless crowd — part Virginia orange, part Butler blue — hummed through every whistle, every collision and every contested rebound as the Cavaliers (5-1, 0-0 ACC) fell 80-73 to the Bulldogs (5-1, 0-0 Big East) in their second and final game of the Greenbrier Tip-Off in White Sulphur Springs, W. The home crowd at a packed Klöckner Stadium held its breath as junior goalkeeper Victoria Safradin calmly waited for junior midfielder Jadyn Holdenried to take a penalty spot with the chance to break the 1-1 tie between No. 1 seed Virginia and No. 4 seed Washington in the 62nd minute. The referee’s whistle blew, and Holdenried charged toward the ball, blasting a laser to the right post. Safradin dove to the right, stopping the shot with her mitts.

Last spring, my friend and I unintentionally went to Lampo2GO, Lampo Neapolitan Pizzeria’s takeout-only location near IX Art Park, when we had meant to have a sit-down meal at the main location. Since then, I have been planning to find a time to do it right and dine in. After spending a day bouncing between far too many group projects and cooped up in my apartment chopping away at finals prep, I decided it was the perfect evening to get out and re-energize myself with dinner.

Student Council passed a resolution Tuesday calling on the University to strengthen emergency protocols, classroom infrastructure and communication systems following widespread student confusion during the Nov. 3 false report of an armed individual on Grounds. Student Council representatives also reflected on their recent delegation visit to the College at Wise, approved the new chief development officer position and heard extensive reports from the financial accessibility and student engagement agencies.

After four games against low and mid-major opponents, Virginia will travel to White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. this weekend for the Greenbrier Tip-Off, playing Friday against Northwestern and Sunday against Butler. Held at The Greenbrier resort, the matchups will be the first real tests of the year for the Cavaliers, who are currently receiving votes just outside of the top 25 following blowout wins over Rider, NC Central, Hampton and Marshall.

The Amphitheater was alive with students Sunday, coming together to promote sustainability at SWAP’s “Big SWAP Under the Big Top.” SWAP is a fashion and sustainability Contracted Independent Organization that hosts events like thrifting trips and upcycling days throughout the year. Their largest event each semester, however, is the Big SWAP, which they have spent the past few months planning.

Virginia wrestling turned in a successful Saturday at St. Edward High School — the alma mater of freshman Ethan Timar — in Lakewood Ohio, picking up a decisive 27-6 victory over Kent State. The Cavaliers (2-1, 0-0 ACC) dominated the Golden Flashes (1-1, 0-0 MAC) from the start, winning the first five bouts of the day and eight of ten overall.

Saturday’s second quarter had almost concluded — one minute and 45 seconds remained. And just like so many times the week prior, Virginia was knocking on the door of a touchdown. But unlike the preceding contest against Wake Forest, the Cavaliers (9-2, 6-1 ACC) refused to be turned away.
