No. 2 Virginia women’s swimming and diving claimed their 16th ACC Championship this weekend by finishing with a new meet record score of 1492.5. The Cavaliers beat out second-place No. 6 NC State — which recorded 1333 points — and were led by the championship’s Most Valuable Swimmer junior Paige Madden.

Just over a month ago, a sports columnist for The Cavalier Daily — who will remain nameless — wrote an article predicting that Virginia men’s basketball would miss the NCAA Tournament. At the time, the conclusion seemed rational, given that the Cavaliers were 12-6, had lost four of their past six and were offensively inept.

After competing in Chicago for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, No. 13 Virginia was back in action in Charlottesville Saturday to take on No. 12 Michigan at the Boar's Head Sports Club. Both the Cavaliers (7-2, 1-0 ACC) and the Wolverines (4-4, 0-0 Big Ten) won one game and lost two in the National Team Indoor Championships.

Virginia men’s lacrosse opened their 2020 campaign with a 12-9 win over No. 14 Loyola. The No. 1 Cavaliers (1-0, 0-0 ACC) built a lead in the first half and did enough in the second half to secure the win over the Greyhounds (0-1, 0-0 Patriot).

Virginia women’s lacrosse returns to the turf — ranked No. 9 nationally — following a 13-7 season in 2019 that ended in a tough loss in the national quarterfinals. The Cavaliers are led by Coach Julie Myers, who is going into her 25th year at the position and has both played and coached for championship-winning Virginia teams.

Last year, despite a dominant regular season which culminated in a second straight ACC regular season championship, Virginia still had its share of skeptics going into the NCAA Tournament. Many had concerns about whether Virginia’s notoriously slow pace of play would work in the postseason — criticisms which became more prevalent after Virginia’s historic upset loss in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. However, the Cavaliers went on to silence the doubters and win the first national championship in program history, proving that their playing style can be effective in March.

A month ago, I couldn’t believe another decade had arrived! Decades are so rare. Did you hear that they only come around once every 10 years? It’s wild, I know. Like many others, I took this new beginning as an opportunity to reflect on how I have grown over the years.
