Before No. 10 Virginia’s trip to the Moon Golf Invitational, no more than two Cavaliers in any one tournament this year had finished outside the top 40. From Sunday to Tuesday in Melbourne, Fla., the highest finish among any of the team’s five golfers was 40th. It was a tough three days for the Cavaliers. Virginia finished with a 28-over 892, almost its worst score this year, placing 12th out of 17 teams and winding up as the second-lowest finisher among the 11 teams ranked in the top 30.

Throughout the month of February, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello has offered a series of events aiming to honor Black history. Events began Feb. 4 with a guest speaker and moderated discussion, and an upcoming event Feb. 21-22 will provide workshops and panels aimed to support attendees in tracking their own family histories.

Virginia returned to Klöckner Stadium Tuesday evening with a renewed sense of urgency, defeating High Point 17-8. In an effort to make local communities safer, the University, the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County announced a new regional partnership through a collaboration with Project Safe Neighborhoods. Announced in a release Jan. 22, this initiative will bring together federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement officials in efforts to reduce violent crime in Charlottesville. Through these partnerships, various community organizations will collaborate to provide support to offenders, with the long-term aim of preventing future crime.

During their Sunday meeting and despite last week’s heavy snowfall which disrupted several scheduled Honor Week events, the Committee highlighted the successes and visibility of the programs and events that did take place from Feb. 9 to Feb. 14. The Committee served Roots to encourage student attendance at this meeting and discussed potential scheduling changes for next year's Honor Week.

In a move to comply with Gov. Glenn Youngkin's Executive Order 46, the University announced Tuesday that it will ban the use of Chinese artificial intelligence platform DeepSeek AI on University devices and Wi-Fi networks. This move was announced in an email sent to the University community by Kenyon Bonner, vice president and chief Student Affairs officer.

The “Anne Spencer: I Am Here!” exhibition at the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library honors Harlem Renaissance poet and Civil Rights activist Anne Spencer. Located in the library’s Main Gallery, the exhibition opened Oct. 22 and will run through June 14.

The Lawn selection committee released decisions Friday and invited 48 students, out of 208 total applicants, to live on the Lawn for the 2025-2026 school year, according to University Spokesperson Bethanie Glover. The selection committee received 31 more applications than the previous year, which meant that the acceptance rate dropped from 26.6 to 23.1 percent.

University student band Split Decision released their inaugural album Friday entitled “Easy Does It.” The nine-track, 33-minute album captures the college indie rock sound even while adding their own personal touches through dynamic solos and tasteful saxophone sounds. The instrumentation blends with lyrics that describe tumultuous relationships with an unconcerned attitude that tries to let go and focus on the simple joys.
