Few television shows can combine extravagant song parodies and electrically charged banter with a sharply painful story arc and still remain watchable, but “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” has managed to pull it off well so far. The third season, released on Netflix last week, is no different.

“The Circle,” James Ponsoldt’s film adaptation of Dave Eggers’s 2013 novel, is a self-proclaimed thriller attempting to confront the darker aspects of social media and the consequences of technological consumption. Despite a star-studded cast, a poorly written script, subpar acting and an overall lack of cohesiveness and purpose causes “The Circle” to fall far short of the mark.

In the past decade, NBC has produced some of the most beloved comedies to ever air on television.
