BEGINNING last Sunday, the Department of Defense started dropping leaflets alongside bombs over Afghanistan. These leaflets address a wide range of issues pertinent to Afghanistan - for example, how to collect food packets in aid drops, why not to support the Taliban, and how to surrender to U.S. troops on the ground. Though on the surface this effort seems good-intentioned, it smacks of an overly-manipulative foreign policy. The United States' use of propaganda drops in Afghanistan is wrong and should be stopped.

The statistics department needs help now. Following a national trend, the statistics department is having trouble retaining both faculty and staff, and as a result, the quality of statistics instruction in the department as a whole is suffering. Students ultimately are being forced to absorb this suffering.

IF THE United States is to make war on the Taliban regime of Afghanistan, it should only be with strong multi-national support. By ignoring the warnings of our international allies - Muslim and non-Muslim alike - to proceed with caution in this effort, the United States risks alienating itself further from the international community and will continue to be seen as the world's policemen. What must be realized is that this is one of the principal reasons we were attacked.
