Flip through "University of Virginia: Off the Record" and you'll find the word "preppy" repeated throughout the sections describing the student body. The book, printed in 2006 by College Prowler, profiles various aspects of the University. It quotes University students anonymously, summarizes their opinions in a paragraph and assigns a letter grade to that section.

Thomas Jefferson never had a cemetery in mind when planning the University, but three years after the first students arrived on Grounds, history intervened. In 1828, an epidemic swept across Charlottesville and many died, causing the need for a burial site.

New coach Mike London was not the only replacement at Virginia football games this year. For the first time since its formation in 2003, the marching band did not perform "Rugby Road" as part of its pregame show, replacing the song's time slow with the peppy but more modest "Hoo Time."

The Corner is home to stores and food locations authentic only to Charlottesville, such as Finch and Bodo's Bagels. In recent years, however, an increase in large commercial chains, such as Starbucks and CVS, have opened along this beloved stretch of University Avenue. This fall, another two chains will open in a shared space on the Corner - Baskin Robbins and its corporate partner Dunkin' Donuts.

In electing Teresa A. Sullivan as its eighth president, the University hired a top administrator who spent years at the University of Texas and the University of Michigan, two public schools whose mission and goals closely align with those of the University. But with so much attention cast on Sullivan, her husband, Douglas Laycock, flew somewhat under the radar when he accepted a position at the Law School after his wife's appointment.

A new chapter of the international human rights group ONE recently started up on Grounds, and the organization is looking to find its niche within the student body at the University.

They say the undergraduate experience defines University graduates for their rest of their lives, from choosing future jobs to the people one meets. It is not everyday that alumni convert their experiences into hit television shows, however, much like Amy Rardin and Carter Covington have used their time at the University as the basis for the ABC Family show, "Greek."
