Courtney Lynch, a Marine Corps veteran and founding partner of Lead Star consulting firm, announced her interest in pursuing the Democratic nomination for the 2012 Virginia Senate race last week. She will enter the race against former Gov. Tim Kaine.

After months of speculation, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine announced Tuesday his entry into the Virginia Senate race for 2012. Pitted against Republican nominee and former senator George Allen, Kaine faces an inevitably close race for his home state's open Senate seat. The seat is currently occupied by Democrat Jim Webb, who announced in February he would not run for re-election.

Eighteen University students won several distinctions Tuesday during the first-ever statewide redistricting competition. Redistricting is required every 10 years following a census report to ensure the number of residents in each district remains consistent, and Virginia will undergo this process before the end of the year.

John Wooden, Basketball Hall of Famer as a player and coach, once said, "Sports do not build character - they reveal it." I believe this is a wise assessment; however, I can say that for the first time, I was not proud of the character revealed by several of my peers this past weekend at the men's soccer game against Wake Forest.
