IT APPEARS church and state finally have resolved their differences and decided to end their three-century separation. Or at least that's what three different public school districts would have you believe. Schools in Kansas, California and Ohio have come under well-deserved fire recently for policies and actions that have American Civil Liberties Union lawyers burning the midnight oil. One at a time, please.

COLLEGE students across the nation took a collective yawn and rolled over as StudentU.com went online last Wednesday and began posting lecture notes taken at 62 universities. The idea is not new - its predecessors include AccuNotes, a short-lived venture by a University student that came and went in the fall of 1997. Unfortunately for the excessively lethargic University student, only two University classes currently are included on the new Web site. Fortunately for the rest of the University community, only two University classes currently are included on the new Web site.

AFFIRMATIVE action programs long have victimized underprivileged white students by offering them no distinction from affluent white students in the college admissions process. Conversely, middle and upper class minority students have benefited from these programs by being offered advantages not available to their white peers.
