Since last Wednesday, students at the University and other institutions across the nation have been mourning the death of 19-year-old Zachary Brunt. A graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and an engineering student at Yale, Zach was a scientist and musician whose long, curly hair and eccentric dance moves were just a couple of the many qualities which distinguished him from his peers.

Two weeks ago, Nobel Prize-winning German writer Gunter Grass published a controversial poem in several newspapers across Europe. The work, titled "What must be said," discussed contemporary politics and Israel's nuclear policy, which Grass criticized for being both destructive and menacing to the state of peace in the Middle East.

Last Sunday, a team of more than 70 partners in the United Nations made the decision to support Syria's opposition groups by sending communications equipment valued at millions of dollars. The Dove campaign for "real beauty" and Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani's campaign against anorexia further illustrate the serious actions being taken against the fashion industry's choice of models.

All this fuss about rush got me thinking, and I've pretty much decided to start a sorority. I've wanted to go Greek for some time and I figure that now is as good a time as any. My sorority is going to be a little different from the ones you've heard about, but nothing outrageous. And if that's upsetting to you then I guess you don't belong here.
