In its first weekend of ACC play, Virginia football rolled past Louisville with a 27-3 win, which marked the first time since 2010 that the Cardinals (2-2, 0-1 ACC) didn’t score a touchdown in a regular season game.
“I was really proud of my team today,” Virginia Coach Bronco Mendenhall said. “Defense carried the beginning of the game, creating scoring opportunities, which then eventually were leveraged into touchdowns — not in the first half, but eventually we started to kind of handle sudden change a little better offensively. Touchdowns started to manifest, and then we played all the way through the end … It was a clean finish, and that’s not easy to do.”

Saturday night, fans at a packed Scott Stadium were eager to see how Virginia Football’s “New Standard” would make the Cavaliers a different team from the one that suffered a humbling 49-7 loss to the Naval Academy at the end of last season. Virginia’s (1-0) dominating 42-13 win over Richmond (0-1) — who beat the Cavaliers two years ago in Coach Bronco Mendenhall’s first game with the program — certainly had fans leaving the game with more positivity and excitement than they had after the Military Bowl defeat.

When college tour guides show prospective students around their campuses, one thing they’ll often say in an attempt to show the diversity of activities offered by the school is, “We even have a Quidditch team.” However, with almost 200 officially recognized teams nationwide, the “Harry Potter”-inspired game is no longer a rarity. The club sport has become an especially popular fixture at universities, and the University is no exception.

In University Hall, there's a space known as “The Cage.” It's been there for years, and the worn down appearance of it certainly doesn't hide that fact. It gets cold in the winter, and stifling hot in the warmer days. There's nothing fancy about the gritty space, and it’s not exactly where you would expect one of the most successful Division I programs to train. But, before most people are awake, that's where the Virginia rowing team can be found as rowers set up their ergs and roll out a large speaker, getting ready for their first grueling workout of the day.
