Typically, sports are all about the team. There are those plays when a player can take the ball unassisted up the field and score. But it's more common, efficient and practical to rely on the team. In soccer, there is not a more telling statistic of team reliance than assists. It shows that the offense is sharing the ball and that the defense cannot focus on one specific player. Right now, Virginia junior defender/midfielder Hunter Freeman has an impressive 13 assists in only 12 games.

It was a fairly cool September night, but the heat of the in-state rivalry lived up to its billing. Virginia's field hockey team (6-5) had yet another game decided by one goal against William & Mary (6-4).By the time the clock ticked down to triple zeros, it was Virginia on the losing end, 5-4, to the Tribe.

Despite falling to No. 11 Richmond, the No. 10 Virginia field hockey team will probably hold onto a high ranking according to the STX/NFHCA poll. However, the Cavaliers' 5-2 record is more deceiving than is appears and deserves to be taken with a grain of salt.
