As students are home for the holidays, many may be dreading the reality of going back to living with their parents and the — let’s say complicated — things that come with it. Whether it’s nagging about applying to internships, constant questions about your love life, or the monitoring of your every move, there are bound to be some cons associated with returning home. Whatever they may be, it’s safe to say they don’t compare to the psychotic behavior of Sarah Paulson’s single mother character in the new thriller, “Run,” which debuted on Hulu on Friday, Nov. 20.

“The Craft: Legacy” debuted Wednesday, Oct. 28 on Amazon Prime. As the name implies, the film is somewhere between a sequel and a reboot of the 1996 cult classic original — “The Craft.” It stems from the powerhouse horror production company Blumhouse, which is responsible for several recent hits including best-picture-nominated “Get Out,” 2018’s “Halloween” sequel and this year’s excellent reimagining of “The Invisible Man.”

This year's 20th annual Lighting of the Lawn celebration will look different than usual. Due to the pandemic, the event which typically draws thousands of students to the Lawn will be held virtually Nov. 19. A video of the celebration will be sent out to University students as well the broader community and will feature interviews from University alumni and first responders, performances by dance and a cappella groups, the traditional “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” countdown and a brand new light show.

For the past 85 years, the American Legion has brought together hundreds of young men in each state for a week-long governmental simulation in which participants elect representatives and form their own democracy. The result is a week of intense campaigning, brutal mudslinging and a fascinating race to win the top office of governor, as seen in the documentary “Boys State,” which was featured at the Virginia Film Festival this Saturday.

The student leaders behind an open letter to the University community — which implores the University to re-adopt the default credit/no credit/general credit grading system that was developed in the Spring 2020 semester — are hopeful that the more than 1,400 student signatures are too great for U.Va. administrators to ignore.
