Nine College professors and one Darden professor were awarded project grants from the Mead Endowment, a program created to commemorate the academic career of former Music Prof. Ernest "Boots" Mead. Winners were announced at a dinner in the Rotunda Dome Room Saturday night.

Politics Prof. Larry Sabato released his annual "Crystal Ball" political forecast Thursday morning, predicting that Republicans will make substantial gains during the upcoming midterm elections. These predictions include a GOP takeover of the House of Representatives, along with a near-takeover of the Senate this November.

The Perriello for Congress campaign held a kick-off event at a home in Charlottesville Saturday to promote the re-election of Congressman Tom Perriello, D-Charlottesville. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Virginia, gave his support to the campaign in a speech at the event. The 2010 election year is one in which experts expect Democrats to lose seats.

The FBI and local authorities are investigating a severed propane gas line at the home of Bo Perriello, the older brother of Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Charlottesville. Officials have deemed the incident as a "deliberate act of vandalism," which may have resulted as possible retribution for the representative's vote in favor of health care reform, mistakenly targeted at his brother.
