The Virginia softball team travels to Baton Rouge this weekend to compete in the Purple & Gold Challenge hosted by Louisiana State University. In addition to the host Tigers, Virginia will play Memphis, North Dakota State and Nicholls State.

The Virginia men’s lacrosse team opens its season Saturday against Drexel at Klöckner Stadium, making this the 12th consecutive year the squad is playing the Dragons to start the season. The Cavaliers come in ranked at No. 7 in the USILA coaches poll and No. 9 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll. After ending last season with an exit in the NCAA Quarterfinals, Virginia will seek to make a return to the tournament’s final four after reaching at least the semifinals every year from 2008 to 2011.

The Virginia men’s basketball team’s matchup against Clemson Thursday presents an opportunity to earn two different types of redemption. The Cavaliers will look to avenge the 15-point road loss they suffered to the Tigers earlier this season, and perhaps more importantly, they will attempt to erase memories of Sunday’s stunning collapse against Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Though a win will do nothing to erase those two blemishes from a mostly impressive resume, a victory would set the right tone as the team heads into the second half of its ACC schedule.

Dennis Hohenshelt had been a Pennsylvania man his whole life. It was where he went to school and played volleyball. It was where he coached men and women, high school players and college student-athletes. It was where he started a family and thought he would live and work until he retired. But Jan. 26, 2012, Hohenshelt became a Virginian, and he could not be any happier.
