The Virginia men’s soccer program is universally regarded as one of the greatest Division I soccer programs in the history of college athletics. With seven NCAA titles synonymous to the program and 34 consecutive NCCA Tournament appearances on its resume, the program has unsurprisingly launched many professional careers of both the players and coaches that have graced the Cavalier orange and blue. Currently, several former Cavaliers compete in the professional ranks experiencing success, whether in Major League Soccer or other leagues such as the North American Soccer League.

After Blake Miller’s resignation as the Virginia softball head coach this past season, the search for a Cavalier successor began. That search was completed with the hiring of former McNeese State head coach Joanna Hardin in early June.

The Virginia women’s softball team continued its strong end to the season this past weekend, taking two out of three against ACC rival Georgia Tech. The Cavaliers (18-30, 7-10 ACC) played near-perfect ball Saturday, sweeping the doubleheader over the Yellow Jackets (19-29, 5-12 ACC) with a 6-0 win in the first game of the series and a 13-1 win in the second.

Virginia softball had a quick turnaround, taking on visiting Liberty three days after their series finale against North Carolina. The Cavaliers (16-29, 5-9 ACC) and Flames (24-23, 10-5, Big South) split the two-game series, with Liberty taking the first game 1-0 and Virginia winning the second, 9-7.

Everything seemed to click for the Virginia softball team this weekend. It had arguably its best series performance of the season, taking two of three against the Tar Heels. The Cavaliers (15-28, 5-10 ACC) used strong pitching and timely hitting to take down a quality opponent in North Carolina (24-21, 8-10 ACC).
