As the weather is getting a bit cooler and everything is getting a bit more spooky, we are entering in prime Darty season — one of my favorite times of the year. Of course, darties are arguably year-round, but the true, classy, U.Va. darty is the one that takes place on Saturday afternoon in sweater weather. I want to explain my preference for darties rather than regular night parties, and I thought the best way to do this was to perform a comparative analysis.

The sun is shining, and the birds are chirping. There are people sitting outside at Trin and students sprawled out studying on the Lawn. Dogs gracefully gallop across the grassy fields, serving as the best kind of stress relief. Heaven and hell, Foxfield and finals, are on their way — you can decide which one is which. But don’t let the gorgeous weather fool you. It’s safe to say that everyone is a little on edge. Whether it’s your impossible anthropology final next week or your search for that perfect summer internship, you’re tense to say the least. All-in-all, it’s heating up outside, but it’s heating up inside too. This time of the year I like to call “Spring Fever,” and tensions among students are at their highest. So, I’ll take you through a typical Thursday in my shoes as I experience, first hand, the fever.

It’s springtime at the University. The birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and your sunburn from spring break is just starting to peel. But most importantly, a University tradition comes to the forefront of our minds. A tradition filled with neglected horses and sexually frustrated jockeys. One involving big hats, big drinks and big dreams. Yes, I’m talking about Foxfield — a tradition as old as the University itself. Legend has it Foxfield was started with TJ and his friends drag racing with carriages after shotgunning a few too many bottles of wine. While some things about Foxfield require no thought, like what print your sundress should be (floral) or what brand your bowtie is (Vineyard Vines), some things are less certain. Well, this helpful quiz is here to answer the age-old, often forgotten question — what hat will I wear to Foxfield?

Psych 1010 is a popular class. It fills up most semesters, and it can be hard to get into. As a potential psychology major, I knew I had to take it to see if the major was for me. I put it off all my first year and fall semester my second year. But this semester I decided it was time for me to finally enroll and take the class — you know, to see what I was missing. Well, turns out the class probably would have been better missed. Now, it’s not the professor or anything. He’s a great guy. Interestingly enough, it’s the students. However, they aren’t just any students — they are the most dreaded, bold and, most importantly, unpredictable kind. First-years. And now, I was on their turf. Something I should have considered in an intro class, but it was too late for me now. I’ll take you through my first day.
