The Virginia women’s basketball team experienced its first defeat of the season when it played No. 25 Oklahoma Sunday afternoon at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers (3-1, 0-0 ACC) managed to trim down the point difference after a hot start from the visiting team, but it was not enough to overcome the Sooners (5-0, 0-0 Big 12), who pulled away for an 82-67 victory.

Virginia men’s and women’s cross country ended their season Saturday morning with the honor of hosting the NCAA XC Championship Meet at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. — a first since 1987. Unfortunately, both teams struggled to improve their performance from the 2022 NCAA XC Championship Meet, with the women’s team finishing No. 15 overall — a large difference from their ninth-place finish last year — and the men’s team finishing No. 22 overall — the same as the year before.

The Virginia women’s basketball team hosted its season opener Wednesday night against Maryland Eastern Shore and started the season off with a 76-52 win. The Cavaliers (1-0, 0-0 ACC) slowly built up a rhythm that left the Hawks (0-2, 0-0 MEAC) struggling to keep up.

With Virginia women’s basketball’s first public exhibition occurring Thursday against Pitt-Johnstown and its season opener Wednesday against Maryland Eastern Shore, basketball season is quickly approaching, and the Cavaliers are ready for it. No. 11 Virginia women’s tennis has had an impressive start to the NCAA Women’s Tennis Team Championship, defeating both LIU and Princeton over the weekend at the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville. This is the eighth time in program history and third straight time for Coach Sara O’Leary that the Cavaliers (20-6, 10-3 ACC) have advanced to the Round of 16. The Sharks (12-11, 4-0 NEC) and the Tigers (17-7, 7-0 Ivy League) were each overwhelmed by Virginia’s depth of talent at its disposal.

No. 9 Virginia women’s tennis wrapped up the regular season over the weekend with a loss Friday against No. 8 NC State at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. and a victory Sunday against No. 28 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Cavaliers (16-5, 9-3 ACC) lost to the Wolfpack (19-4, 9-3 ACC) by a score of 5-2 but rebounded to defeat the Demon Deacons (15-12, 5-8 ACC) 6-1.

weekend at the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville. They started off the weekend by topping No. 20 Georgia Tech Friday, then proceeded to close the weekend out with a win against Clemson Sunday. Both games against the Yellow Jackets (10-7, 4-5 ACC) and the Tigers (15-8, 3-7 ACC) were close affairs, but gaining both doubles points proved to be the difference in each game.

The No. 11 Virginia women’s tennis team (12-3, 5-1 ACC) had a strong weekend at the Boar’s Head Resort and Sports Club in Charlottesville topping No. 24 Notre Dame (10-6, 1-4 ACC) Friday and Louisville (8-8, 0-6 ACC) Sunday.

No. 7 Virginia women’s tennis (5-0, 0-0 ACC) defeated William & Mary (2-1, 0-0 CAA) 7-0 Sunday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville. Virginia was coming off a pair of victories at ITA Kickoff Weekend, moving up in rank from No. 8 to now No. 7.

Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams competed Friday in the ACC Cross Country Championships hosted by Virginia at Panorama Farms — the site of the 2023 NCAA Championships. The Cavaliers placed third out of 15 teams in the women’s event and sixth out of 15 teams in the men’s event.

Virginia men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed Saturday in the XC23 Invitational hosted by Virginia at Panorama Farms— the site of this year’s upcoming ACC Championship races and the 2023 NCAA Championships. The Cavaliers earned first place in the women’s race and second place in the men’s race, out of 18 and 17 teams respectively. The women’s team remains undefeated heading into the ACC Championships.

Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams competed Friday in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College at Franklin Park. Out of the 19 teams for women and 15 teams for men, both Cavalier teams placed first overall.
