The first U.S. Census was directed by Thomas Jefferson in 1790, and it has been conducted every ten years since. Its mission is “to serve as the leading source of quality data about the nation’s people and economy.” Also, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics, census data is meant “to present a full and reliable picture of the population in the country.” As the next census approaches, we must ask whether the census really achieves the goal of providing reliable data in regards to who resides in the United States.

It’s springtime at the University. The birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and your sunburn from spring break is just starting to peel. But most importantly, a University tradition comes to the forefront of our minds. A tradition filled with neglected horses and sexually frustrated jockeys. One involving big hats, big drinks and big dreams. Yes, I’m talking about Foxfield — a tradition as old as the University itself. Legend has it Foxfield was started with TJ and his friends drag racing with carriages after shotgunning a few too many bottles of wine. While some things about Foxfield require no thought, like what print your sundress should be (floral) or what brand your bowtie is (Vineyard Vines), some things are less certain. Well, this helpful quiz is here to answer the age-old, often forgotten question — what hat will I wear to Foxfield?

If you know me, you know I love movies. I live for movies. I quote movies in every other sentence — often turning to whomever I’m in conversation with and asking, “Do you know what that’s from?” And more often than not, the person next to me looks at me like I’m crazy, matter-of-factly tells me no, that they don’t obtain the “useless” knowledge of movie quotes like I do and they carry on with their lives.

Thousands gathered at the nation’s capital for the March For Our Lives, an anti-gun violence march on Saturday, March 24. The D.C. event was organized by the survivors of the Parkland shooting in February and included a day full of events in addition to 846 events being held worldwide. It was reported that many restaurants and hot spots around Washington were offering freebies to demonstrators, and many famous faces made appearances. The #NeverAgain movement associated with the march has captivated the nation’s attention and the efforts of participants, especially those that are students, have been applauded in the media and supported. This same level of support, however, has not been extended to other movements like #BlackLivesMatter, that also advocate against government-sanctioned gun violence. In the past there has been resistance against these movements, claiming that they are not inclusive enough. The March for Our Lives and #NeverAgain movement are the #AllLivesMatter movement that America’s been waiting for.

As “Grey’s Anatomy” soldiers on for its 14th season, a new spinoff, “Station 19,” has arrived as a life-boat for ABC’s sinking ship. With famed producer Shonda Rhimes departing for Netflix, ABC threw all of its eggs into the seemingly-safe bet of a show about sexy firefighters saving puppies, octogenarians and pregnant 13 year-olds. The final product, however, was nothing more than a cookie cutter fluff piece no better than every other modified cop show on the market.

Several opinion pieces have been recently published in The Cavalier Daily regarding the decision of the Minority Rights Coalition to deny membership to the Jewish Leadership Council. It seems that each writer takes this rejection to signal devaluation of Jewish opinion rather than rejection of the JLC’s pro-Israel ideology, which is evident by the inclusion of their constituent group Hoos for Israel. I should preface this first part by stating that I am not involved in and do not speak on behalf of the MRC. However, I believe that for the JLC to be considered eligible for membership in the MRC, they must denounce their ties to Zionist groups.
