The University Chamber Singers opened the memorial.
“It was interesting to see all of these stories and to see how many people had similar stories to mine,” Choi said.
The goal of MEL is to recognize the accomplishments of slaves at the University and eventually institute a memorial for the enslaved laborers, Wilson said.
“Cities with little diversity, such as Detroit and Baltimore, are stagnating,” Mehta said. “But cities like New York with lots of diversity and industry are thriving.”
Local group Kendall Street Company kicked off a night of rock and roll at the Jefferson last week.
