Student released from University hospital

After sustaining severe head injuries during an altercation outside the Sigma Chi fraternity house, second-year College student and University football player Carson Ward left the University Medical Center this week in improved condition. Ward underwent emergency surgery to remove blood clots in his brain and remained unconscious for several days after the alleged incident, which occurred in the early hours of Nov.

Medical Center named to top 100

The University Medical Center placed among the nation's top 100 hospitals for the fifth consecutive year, according to a report released this week by Solucient, a national health care corporation. The University Medical Center joined 15 other "major teaching hospitals," or centers which can provide inpatient care to over 400 individuals at one time, in Solucient's publication entitled "100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarkers." Solucient's criteria for top hospitals include quality of care, operational efficiency, financial performance and adaptation to the external environment.

Study abroad office looks to increase enrollment

The International Studies Office has bolstered publicity and recruiting efforts this year in hopes of increasing enrollment in the University's study abroad programs. Under the "2020" admission plan, the office has set the goal of enrolling 80 percent of all University students in some sort of study abroad program by 2020.
