Ludacris to perform at Spring Fling

The popular hip-hop artist Ludacris will perform at the University April 12 as a focal point for Spring Fling. Spring Fling is a series of events held annually for prospective African-American students and their families. The Lambda Zeta chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and PK German, a wing of the University Programs Council, are sponsoring the concert in an attempt to unify the community and to reach out to the visiting prospective students, group representatives said. The concert will be held at University Hall, beginning at 8 p.m.

County, University evaluate flood risk

Because of this weekend's rain and higher temperatures, which caused last week's accumulation of snow and ice to melt, minor flooding has been reported across the region and continues to be expected for the beginning of the week.

Athletic facilities receive $1.5 million gift

On Jan. 10, the Virginia Athletics Program received a $1.5 million contribution from an anonymous donor which will be used to implement much needed enhancements for the University's wrestling and volleyball programs. Memorial Gymnasium and Onesty Hall, the wrestling team's practice facility, will receive thorough makeovers, including fresh paint, new floors and updated equipment. "This gift is unique because it benefits two sports and the University community," said Dirk Katstra, executive director of the Virginia Athletics Foundation. Director of Athletics Craig Littlepage said that the project already has begun. "The planning for the renovations is already underway," Littlepage said.
