Spring Fling in Full Swing
As the blossoms around Grounds begin to creep into full flower, so do many University social events. Spring Fling is one such event, and will commence April 13 and wrap up on the 15th.
Spring Fling is sponsored by the Black Student Admissions Committee, a student body that works in conjunction with the University Office of Admissions to aid both prospective and accepted black students in learning about various aspects of the school.
Spring Fling is a weekend where admitted black students can gain knowledge of the social aspects of the University. The counterpart of Spring Fling is Fall Fling, which centers on the academics at the University.
"Spring Fling will consist of a variety of social events for the visiting students, including parties and readings," said fourth-year College student and Black Student Admissions Council member Pia Hill.
"Hopefully 200 or so will show up. There are going to be two fashion shows and two parties going on," Hill said. A step show also will be held to showcase rhythmic stepping dance performances by members of historically black fraternities and sororities on Grounds.
In addition to the party events, Hill said that Spring Fling also will host "Alumni Connect" and a poetry reading. "Alumni Connect is an opportunity for admitted students to meet the alumni," Hill said.
So that Spring Fling attendees can gain better knowledge of the student organizations on Grounds, Hill said a special fair will be set up during the weekend.
