Etu qualifies for Olympic Trials

Virginia wrestler Josh Etu qualified for the Olympic Trials yesterday after finishing seventh at the 2000 U.S National Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas with a record of 3-2. The freshman is the first Virginia wrestler ever to qualify.

Etu, a heavyweight wrestler, was also the first Cavalier to win a University National Championship. He was victorious in both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle competitions held at Northwestern University April 11.

Aumiller draws an ace

Freshman Lauren Aumiller's stellar performance in Wednesday's women's lacrosse game played a key role in the Cav's upset over No. 5 Lafayette in overtime. Aumiller led the No. 9 Cavs with three goals and two assists and set a new freshman record for assists with her 15th. She also won eight draws, one of which led to the game winning goal by midfielder Jamie Haas, who tallied three goals and two assists.

The women's lacrosse team will face Vanderbilt in Nashville Saturday at noon.

Charges were dropped yesterday against North Carolina basketball players Ed Cota and Terrence Newby for a fight that broke out in the fall on the UNC campus. The two seniors deny any involvement in the fight, yet were suspended from the basketball team and were charged with assault inflicting serious injury and simple assault.

In exchange for the dropped charges, the seniors must perform 10 hours of community service and pay court fees and part of the victims' medical bills.

Cota and Newby were able to play in the NCAA Final Four after their trial was postponed for a fourth time.

Cincinnati Bengal Peter Warrick, drafted fourth out of Florida State two weekends ago, has fired SFX Sports' George Brown as his agent. The wide receiver was dissatisfied with his slide to fourth pick and his selection to the NFL team with the worst record in the 1990s.

Warrick has not yet specified who his new agent will be. Bengals GM Mike Brown said he expects to find out over the weekend. The team holds its first workout Saturday.
