Driscoll misses weekend cut by one stroke

After a surprising score of 68 in the first round, former Virginia golf standout James Driscoll shot a 78 in the second and failed to make the cut at the 2001 Masters in Augusta, Ga.

Driscoll, a 2000 Virginia graduate, shot a first-round score of four-under par, the lowest for an amateur since 1983, but then missed the cut by just one stroke. In the second round, Driscoll shot six-over par.

Also among those who did not make the weekend cut were Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Davis Love III, Sergio Garcia and Joe Durant.

Women's tennis loses ACC matches

The Virginia women's tennis team (13-7, 2-3 ACC) fell yesterday to No. 2 Duke (18-1, 5-0) in Durham, N.C., 5-2.

The Blue Devils started off by winning two of three doubles matches. Cavaliers Jennifer Tuchband and Kelly Weaver won their match at No. 3, defeating Duke's Katie Granson and Hillary Adams, 9-8.

In singles, Tuchband also pulled out a win over Duke's Kathy Sell, 6-5, 7-5. Cavalier Laura James also won her singles match against Adams.
