After losing to Wake Forest on Saturday, the Virginia women's tennis team redeemed itself Sunday by dominating N.C. State with a 7-0 victory. Both matches took place at the Snyder Tennis Center.
No. 18 Wake Forest (13-7, 6-1 ACC) was just too much for the Cavaliers (14-9, 3-5) to handle and won, 5-2. Virginia sophomore Jennifer Tuchband and senior Kelly Weaver won their third straight match at No. 3 doubles, but two tough losses at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots cost Virginia the doubles point.
In singles, Wake Forest captured victories at the top four spots. Freshman Laura James got the Cavaliers their first point with her triumph over the Demon Deacons' Aimee Smith, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0, at the No. 5 singles spot. Weaver continued the success at the No. 6 spot by defeating Elizabeth Proctor, 6-3, 6-4.
The big thing about the match against Wake Forest is that we didn't play the big points very well, not taking advantage of some of the opportunities that we had, Virginia assistant coach Justin Drzal said.
