The Destiny of Dorm Decor

IKEA, a national chain of home furnishing stores, conducted a survey of 600 randomly selected college students and found that there is a strong correlation between what students bring to school and the decisions they make. How did you stock up your dorm room?

Un-bear-able without Teddy

_ Students who said they couldn't leave home without their stuffed animals were the most likely to report making Dean's List.

_ Of students with siblings, 76 percent said they couldn't leave home without their stuffed animal.

Don't blanket your fears

_ Students with white blankets were more than twice as likely to have gained weight their freshman year compared to students with green blankets.

_ Of the males who brought a white blanket to college, 57 percent reported having a GPA of 3.6 or higher.

_ Students who brought a "security blanket" with them to college were three times as likely to cry every week while at college compared to those students who did not bring a security blanket.

_ Students with pink blankets never said they were depressed.

_ Females who brought a blue blanket with them to college were more than twice as likely to suffer from nightmares at college compared to females who brought a white blanket.

Internet interactions

_ Females with Internet access at college were four times as likely to think about dropping out of college compared to females without Internet access at college.

_ Males with Internet access at college were 92 percent more likely to report drinking alcohol often compared to males without Internet access.

_ Females with Internet access were 40 percent more likely to miss their family the most compared to females without Internet access.

Sofa so good

_ Students with sofas in their rooms were 21 percent more likely to get a good night's sleep every night at college compared to students without sofas in their rooms.

_ Students without sofas in their bedrooms at college were 75 percent more likely to say they call home every day compared to students with sofas in their bedrooms at college.

_ Males who had sofas in their rooms were three times as likely to say they never study compared to females who have sofas in their room.

Desks, drugs and rock 'n' roll

_ Females without desks in their bedrooms at college were 70 percent more likely to say they drink alcohol often compared to females with desks in their bedrooms at college.

Computer conundrums

_ Males who brought personal computers with them to college were 10 times more likely to report feeling peer pressure about drugs compared to males who did not bring a personal computer.

_ Cities that were most likely to have students bring a computer to college were:

1. Baltimore

2. Philadelphia

3. San Francisco

4. Chicago

5. New York

Photo fanatics

_ Students who said they couldn't leave home without photos of family/friends were the least likely to say they felt homesick at college.

_ Those who couldn't leave home without photos of family/friends also were the least likely to join a fraternity or sorority.
