Cavaliers' swimmer garners double honors

Junior All-American Mirjana Bosevska captured honors early in the 2001-2002 season when she was named CollegeSwimming.com's Division I women's collegiate swimmer of the week for the week ending Nov. 11. Bosevska, who is from Skopje, Macedonia, also was named the ACC women's swimmer of the week for winning four events at two different meets both held at Rice University this past weekend.

On Friday, Bosevska won the 500- and 1000-meter freestyle events to lead her team to a second-place finish with 195 points in the Continental Airlines Classic.

Saturday at the Rice Invitational, Bosevska took the 200 individual medley and 200 butterfly titles.

The men's and women's swimming teams will return home to face Penn State on Nov. 18 at 1 p.m.

Golf wins Hawaii Fall Classic on Tuesday

The Virginia golf team traveled all the way to Kahuku, Hawaii, to compete in the 2001 University of Hawaii Fall Classic on Tuesday.

Virginia won the tournament with a 39-over-par 903 at the Turtle Bay Resort Golf Club, beating International Pacific of Australia by two strokes.

Virginia freshman Kevin O'Connell was the Cavaliers' top finisher in a tie for fourth place with 219, 3 over par.

Virginia had two other team members in the top 20 finishers: Sophomore Justin Goodhue placed 12th with a 227, and junior Steve Marino tied for 14th place by scoring a 229.

Hawaii's Mathew Kodama placed first in the tournament by finishing 1 stroke over par.
