Pinney takes honors
Pinney's tight defense on Nittany Lion Katie Jeschke held the American Lacrosse Conference's leading scorer to only one shot. After starting as a true freshman in all seven of Virignia's games this season, Pinney was recognized for her strong play throughout the Cavaliers' three-game Spring Break road trip.
Virginia upset Maryland, 17-16, last Wednesday. The win was the Cavaliers' first over the Terps since March 23, 1993.
After beating the Nittany Lions, Virginia fell to Princeton last Sunday. Despite six points from junior Lauren Aumiller and four goals in the closing five minutes of the game, the Tigers held on for a 13-11 win.
The Virginia women will return to home action this Saturday against North Carolina at noon.
Rain halts Virginia games
The Virginia softball team was trailing Virginia Tech 3-2 with two outs in the top of the third inning when the first game of a doubleheader was postponed because of wet conditions Tuesday. The date of the makeup games has not been announced, but the first game will be played from the beginning in case of a rescheduled match.
Yesterday's planned women's tennis match against the Richmond Spiders has been rescheduled for this Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center.
