Sports in brief

The Virginia women's soccer team will add eight highly regarded recruits next season. The Cavaliers are coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history, and have landed the NSCAA high school player of the year, four NSCAA All-Americans, and three Parade All-Americans.

Virginia hopes for immediate contributions from its new class of recruits. Five of the recruits play on the under-19 U.S. national team, and Virginia coach Steve Swanson said he believes the experience of playing at that level will prepare them well for college.

Recruit Kristen Weiss was named NSCAA player of the year, and becomes the second straight player with that honor to choose Virginia. Last year's NSCAA player of the year, freshman Jamie Fabrizio started 22 of 23 games last season.

The Cavaliers also landed three recruits from Maryland: Kelly Hammond, Noelle Keselica and Julie Napolitano.

Cavs sweep ACC awards

ACC swimming coaches voted Virginia junior Mirjana Bosevska ACC women's swimmer of the year, and sophomore Luke Anderson men's swimmer of the year. Virginia's Bo Greenwood received the men's rookie of the year award, while coach Mark Bernardino won men's coach of the year.

Anderson won the honors after winning three events at the ACC championships where he set ACC records in the 200 meter freestyle and the 100 free.

Bosevska set a personal best of 4:09.75 seconds in the 400 individual medley at NCAA championships, topping her own ACC record. Bosevska also set a record in the 200 IM.

Greenwood competed in the NCAA championships, helping Virginia to its best finish ever.

Bernardino coached the men's team to its sixth ACC title, and its fourth ACC title in four years.
