Brown, Curry arrested on assault charges

Virginia football players, sophomore Elton Brown and junior Almondo Curry, were arrested early morning Jan. 19 for allegedly assaulting a University student. University police responded to an assault complaint late night Jan. 18 near the Copeley residence area. The Charlottesville General District Court has scheduled a hearing for Brown and Curry on Feb. 7.

Virginia coach Al Groh was out of town on a recruiting trip and could not be reached for comment.

Football Sports Information Director Mike Colley said team policy in cases such as these is to "let the law run its course" before making a team decision.

Brown became a full-time starter at right guard this season after entering the starting line-up at the end of his freshman season. Curry, a cornerback recovered three fumbles, recorded three sacks and intercepted two passes, including one of West Virginia quarterback Rasheed Marshall in the Continental Tire Bowl, which the Cavaliers won 48-22.
