Football reigns as king of fall sports

"I can't tell you anything about the volleyball team."

"I don't follow any sports in the fall."

Answers like these are standard responses to queries about Virginia's fall sports.

Well, that is, except for those about football.

Nearly everyone has something to say about Al Groh's Cavaliers around Grounds.

And why not?

The squad is ranked in the top 20 in both major polls. Matt Schaub is a legitimate Heisman candidate at quarterback. Sophomore Wali Lundy has been nominated for the Doak Walker trophy, which annually goes to the nation's top running back. Overall, the team returns 19 of 22 starters from a team that went 9-5 and won its bowl game.

The University’s Orientation and Transition programs are vital to supporting first year and transfer students throughout their entire transition to college. But much of their work goes into planning summer orientation sessions. Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
